Mario Lemina has finally opened up about his dramatic Wolves departure and the powerful motivation behind his return to Galatasaray, nearly four months after sealing the move.

The former Wolves captain had a contentious final chapter at Molineux, where he was stripped of the armband following an intense post-match confrontation at the London Stadium. Manager Gary O’Neil responded by giving the captaincy to Nelson Semedo, a respected leader under current boss Vitor Pereira.

Relations between Pereira and Lemina quickly deteriorated, culminating in the Gabon international refusing to play as he pushed for a mid-season switch. His exit to Galatasaray was confirmed in January, though Lemina controversially announced his departure before the club issued a formal statement—further souring his farewell with Wolves fans.

Now thriving in Istanbul, the 31-year-old has explained his decision, stating his desire to return to a club “making history.” Speaking to Turkish media, Lemina said:

“The fans supported me from the very beginning. Even before I returned, they were behind me. Galatasaray is making history, and I wanted to be part of it.”

Since rejoining the Turkish giants—where he previously spent time on loan—Lemina has become a mainstay in Okan Buruk’s midfield. Galatasaray are currently cruising at the top of the Super Lig and are finalists in the Turkish Cup, positioning the midfielder for a potential domestic double.

With 14 appearances and three goal contributions in 2024 so far, Lemina is proving his value. Meanwhile, Wolves have moved on smoothly without him, with Joao Gomes and Andre forming a stable midfield core.

Despite the messy exit, Lemina’s journey appears to be on track for success, chasing silverware and aiming to etch his name into Galatasaray’s history books.
