Rangers Football Club has issued a forceful statement after a disturbing video surfaced showing an apparent Dundee United supporter taunting the memory of the 1971 Ibrox disaster victims. The footage, filmed during the recent fixture at Ibrox, appears to show a man in the away section raising six fingers — widely interpreted as a vile reference to the 66 lives lost in the tragic stadium collapse. He then gestures toward the ground while seemingly provoking Rangers fans.
The act has drawn widespread condemnation, echoing a similar incident earlier this month involving a Celtic supporter who was subsequently banned from Celtic Park and lost his job. Authorities launched an investigation into that matter, and Rangers are now calling for similar legal consequences in this case.
In a statement, the club expressed heartbreak over the incident:
> “It is deeply upsetting that another despicable gesture has emerged. The Ibrox disaster remains the darkest moment in our history and continues to affect countless families. To mock such a tragedy is repugnant and has no place in football or society. We urge the justice system to pursue appropriate action.”
The Ibrox disaster occurred on January 2, 1971, when a crush on Stairway 13 after a match between Rangers and Celtic led to the deaths of 66 fans, many of them young, and left over 200 injured. Rangers continue to honor those lost annually with a moment of silence near the anniversary.
Legendary Celtic manager Jock Stein, who assisted at the scene, once remarked:

Dundee United have yet to comment on the incident.
