While Oliver Glasner’s men are riding high after lifting the club’s first major trophy, signs of a post-Wembley slump could already be creeping in. Add to that two fresh injury concerns, and suddenly the narrative ahead of their Premier League clash with Wolves looks far less predictable.
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira had acknowledged Palace’s growing threat, singling out their tactical discipline under Glasner. However, the Portuguese manager might now be reworking his approach after Palace confirmed that defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Adam Wharton – both vital to their recent success – will be unavailable after sustaining injuries during the FA Cup final. Wharton, in particular, is sidelined for the rest of the campaign.
These absences leave sizeable holes in Palace’s usual structure. Guehi’s replacement is expected to be Jefferson Lerma, who slotted into the backline at the weekend. Meanwhile, Will Hughes, who came on for Wharton at Wembley, is the likely candidate to step into midfield.
