This money, under Premier League rules, would instead have been redistributed among the remaining top-flight clubs, amounting to roughly £1.95 million per team.

Now, with Sunderland going up and Sheffield United staying down, that redistribution won’t happen. The £39m will go to the Blades as planned, leaving every other Premier League club with nearly £2m less than they might have had. It’s not a massive sum in the context of top-level football, but for clubs like Manchester United—recently fined £10m by Adidas after missing Champions League qualification—it’s a frustrating loss amid tight financial maneuvering.
