Wolverhampton Wanderers may now have a clear shot at landing Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, with transfer developments at Bayer Leverkusen opening the door for a potential move.
Following the club-record £62.5 million sale of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, Wolves are in the market for a creative attacking midfielder to fill the void. Elliott has been on their radar for some time, and although discussions had cooled in recent weeks, the move is far from off the table.
The 21-year-old, despite showcasing flashes of brilliance at Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp, has found minutes harder to come by under new manager Arne Slot. While he made 53 appearances last season, only one of those came as a Premier League starter, and injuries further disrupted his campaign.
Bayer Leverkusen had also shown strong interest in Elliott and explored the possibility of including him in a blockbuster deal that would send Florian Wirtz to Anfield. However, that idea has now been shelved. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Leverkusen are no longer pursuing Elliott as part of the Wirtz negotiations, eliminating one of Wolves’ main competitors for the player.
Elliott’s potential availability stems largely from Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz, whose transfer could exceed €130 million. Should the German star arrive at Anfield, it would push Elliott further down the pecking order, making an exit more likely. Liverpool reportedly value Elliott at around £50 million, but Wolves may seek to negotiate that fee down.
Despite his public commitment to Liverpool, Elliott has admitted that his future is uncertain. In a recent interview, he expressed his desire to remain at the club long-term but acknowledged that his career growth may ultimately depend on opportunities elsewhere.
“It’s been a tougher year for me, especially with the injury,” Elliott told *The Echo*. “I always want to stay here and play every game, but sometimes the circumstances don’t align. I have to think about what’s best for my future.”
With Bayer Leverkusen stepping away, Wolves are in a strong position to make a formal move. While other clubs could still show interest, the Old Gold now have an open route to test Liverpool’s resolve — and Elliott’s ambitions — with a decisive offer.
