Brighton Seal Historic £29.78m Deal for Olympiakos Prodigy Charalampos Kostoulas

Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the signing of Olympiakos sensation Charalampos Kostoulas in a record-breaking £29.78 million agreement, marking a major coup for the Premier League side and a landmark moment in Greek football history.

The 18-year-old forward completed his medical on Thursday and is expected to officially join the Seagulls on a five-year contract starting 1 July.

The transfer represents the highest fee ever paid to a Greek club, surpassing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £16.6 million deal for Daniel Podence in 2020.

The deal could rise further, with performance-based bonuses worth up to £1.7 million included—potentially making Kostoulas the most expensive Greek footballer ever, eclipsing the £30.63 million Roma received from Napoli for Kostas Manolas in 2019.

Kostoulas is considered one of the top young talents in Europe, having risen rapidly through the Olympiakos youth system.

He made his senior debut in 2024 and became a standout in the club’s successful UEFA Youth League campaign, which saw Olympiakos eliminate powerhouses like Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan.

He scored seven goals in 22 Greek Super League appearances last season and has also featured prominently for Greece’s Under-21 side.

Brighton’s acquisition of Kostoulas reinforces their reputation for discovering and nurturing elite young talent, further solidifying their growing presence in European football.
