Rangers ‘Given Green Light’ for £5m Kevin Boma Deal as Transfer Bid Nears – Fitness Expert Issues Verdict on Injury Record
Rangers have reportedly received the go-ahead to pursue the signing of Togo international Kevin Boma this summer, with a formal offer for the 22-year-old defender expected to follow soon.
Boma, who currently features for Portuguese side Estoril, has emerged as a key target as Rangers aim to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the new season. A report from *Foot Mercato* (9 May) claims that the Scottish giants will need to part with more than £5 million to land the highly rated centre-back. They’re not alone in the chase, however, with Swiss outfit FC Basel also understood to be preparing a bid.
While any potential move will be subject to the usual medical evaluations, injury specialist Dr. Rajpal Brar has weighed in on Boma’s recent physical condition. Despite a previous adductor injury that sidelined him temporarily, Brar believes the defender should have little difficulty adjusting to the physical nature of the Scottish Premiership.
“The club might assess how his adductor injury was managed given the layoff,” Brar told *Ibrox News*. “But apart from that, there’s been nothing especially concerning. He played consistently last season, and I wouldn’t expect any fitness-related issues should he make the move to Rangers.”
Still, the financial outlay required for Boma may force the club’s decision-makers to pause for thought. While he’s considered a promising talent, questions remain over whether he’s ready to be a guaranteed starter for Rangers.
In recent years, Rangers have been guilty of overinvesting in players who failed to meet expectations. The current regime is therefore likely to proceed with caution, ensuring that any big-money signing can make an immediate impact in Philippe Clement’s starting XI.
As it stands, Rangers are evaluating their options carefully but seem poised to act swiftly if they believe Boma is the right fit for their defensive rebuild.
