Former Sunderland loanee Salis Abdul Samed is reportedly eager to leave RC Lens this summer, following a disappointing spell in the Premier League with the newly promoted Black Cats. The 25-year-old Ghanaian midfielder joined Sunderland on loan from Lens last year in hopes of revitalizing the club’s midfield. However, his time in England was marred by injury setbacks—first a muscle issue that delayed his debut until January, then another injury in March that further limited his chances.
Despite finally returning to action, Samed struggled to secure regular minutes in Tony Mowbray’s squad, finishing his stint with just eleven appearances. Sunderland, meanwhile, decided against extending his loan deal or pursuing a permanent transfer. The club has since bolstered its midfield ranks with key signings such as Enzo Le Fée from Roma, Habib Diarra from Strasbourg, and are reportedly close to sealing a deal for Union SG’s Noah Sadiki.
Now back at Lens, where he still has three years left on his contract, Samed is weighing his options. According to French journalist Sébastien Denis, the defensive midfielder is actively seeking a move away from the Ligue 1 side, even if he isn’t in a rush. Lens are also open to selling him and are hoping to cash in, with Bundesliga side Stuttgart among those showing interest.
Although he will begin pre-season training with Lens, Samed is expected to monitor transfer opportunities closely in the coming weeks. A return to England hasn’t been ruled out, but a fresh start in Germany appears more likely.
