According to *Foot Mercato*, the newly promoted Premier League side are “in the running” for the highly rated Georgian forward, though he’s currently viewed as a fallback option rather than the club’s top priority.
Interest in Mikautadze has spiked across Europe following Lyon’s provisional relegation to Ligue 2, imposed by France’s financial watchdog, the DNCG. The club’s drop is tied to ongoing financial irregularities under owner John Textor. A final decision on their status is expected on July 10, a date which could have serious implications for the club’s transfer plans and the futures of players like Mikautadze.
Despite the uncertainty, Mikautadze’s name is still circulating heavily in the market. Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly considering him as a replacement should Hugo Ekitike depart.
Sunderland, meanwhile, are continuing their strong push into the French market. They’ve already been linked with several Ligue 1 talents this summer as they prepare for their return to England’s top flight.
