Wolves have been dealt a major blow in the transfer market, as one of their top summer targets, Marc Pubill, appears set to snub the Premier League side in favour of a move to European giants AC Milan.
The Molineux outfit, under new boss Vitor Pereira, are in desperate need of reinforcements ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Despite closing in on a deal for Fluminense’s Jhon Arias and previously securing Fer Lopez, the squad remains significantly under-strength. Pereira, who has made no secret of his ambitions to elevate the club to a solid mid-table finish, reportedly wants at least five more signings to shape a competitive team.
A right wing-back has been a priority after Nelson Semedo’s contract expired, with the captain now training alone in Portugal and set to leave. Wolves had identified 22-year-old Almeria full-back Marc Pubill as their ideal replacement—someone who could bring athleticism, power, and a long-term presence on the right flank.
However, the club’s hopes of landing Pubill now look dead in the water. According to Italian journalist Giacomo Iacobellis, the highly rated Spaniard is undergoing a medical in Barcelona ahead of a £16 million transfer to AC Milan. This sudden development has left Wolves scrambling, with interest from the Italian heavyweights proving too strong a hurdle to overcome.
With Pubill off the table, the pressure mounts on Pereira and the club’s ownership group, Fosun, who have already come under criticism for their sluggish approach to recruitment. The loss of Semedo is a significant one—not just tactically, but also in terms of leadership and dressing room influence. His departure creates a void that current options like Rodrigo Gomes, Ki-Jana Hoever, and Pedro Lima are unlikely to fill effectively.
This isn’t the first time Wolves have found themselves caught short. A similar scenario played out last summer when key players like Max Kilman and Pedro Neto were sold without adequate replacements brought in. Then-manager Gary O’Neil was left scrambling, and ultimately no new signings arrived in time to plug the gaps.
If the club fails to act swiftly, history could repeat itself. With the season opener against Manchester City looming on August 16, Wolves must accelerate their efforts to secure both a new right wing-back and a left-sided alternative to Hugo Bueno, following Rayan Ait-Nouri’s departure.
