AliousCrystal Palace Launch Late Transfer Raid After Eze Exit
Crystal Palace appear to be finally springing into life in the transfer market following the £65m departure of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.
So far, the Eagles have barely dipped into their funds – just £2m spent on Borna Sosa, while Walter Benítez arrived for free. That frugal streak seemed to shift on Tuesday when Palace struck a sensational deal for Yeremy Pino, potentially worth up to £48m to Villarreal if all add-ons are triggered.
Now, fresh reports from the Daily Mail suggest Palace are not stopping there. Simon Jones claims the London club have launched a dramatic attempt to hijack Wolves’ £17m move for Getafe star Christantus Uche.
Wolves and Getafe are said to have a full agreement in place, but the 22-year-old Nigeria international is yet to put pen to paper, leaving Palace with an opening to pounce.
Uche, standing at 6ft 3in, offers versatility across the pitch – equally comfortable as a striker, attacking midfielder, central midfielder, or even operating from the left flank. Last season in La Liga he managed four goals and six assists in 33 appearances, underlining his value as a multi-purpose attacking threat.
Spanish outlets have even captured footage of the Getafe No.10 being whisked away from training on Wednesday morning, sparking speculation he could already be bound for England ahead of a medical.
Adding extra intrigue, Crystal Palace’s recent Sporting Director appointment Matt Hobbs is believed to be pulling the strings on this audacious swoop. Hobbs, who left Wolves only in June, is now working behind the scenes at Selhurst Park after Dougie Freedman’s exit to Saudi Arabia in March.
Should Palace snatch Uche away, it would not only represent a bold statement of intent but also a bitter twist for Wolves, whose former recruitment chief may now deny them a player they thought was already secured.
