Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, have made an impressive start since taking over at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and the recent announcement of a substantial financial boost has fans dreaming ahead of the January transfer window.
The Toffees endured difficult financial times under previous owner Farhad Moshiri, whose overspending contributed to an eight-point deduction in the 2023-24 Premier League season (initially 10 points). But the arrival of TFG — also owners of Serie A side Roma — has brought a fresh era to the club. The squad has already benefited, with high-profile signings such as Jack Grealish arriving, alongside improvements at the stadium and surrounding facilities along the River Mersey.
Massive £107m injection could fuel January business
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Everton’s parent company, Roundhouse Capital Holdings, had injected £107 million into the club through new share issues in August and September. This brings TFG’s total investment in the club to nearly £400 million since December 2024.
While some of the funds may be allocated to operational costs or the redevelopment of Nelson Dock and the stadium expansion for Euro 2028, the cash injection could also enable Everton to strengthen the squad. With the club comfortably in the Financial Fair Play green zone, they now have the flexibility to explore new signings.
Antonee Robinson emerges as ideal target
Defensive reinforcements are a priority, particularly at left-back. One standout candidate is Antonee Robinson, a player familiar with Everton’s setup. Robinson joined the Toffees’ academy at age 11 and turned professional in 2016 but never made a first-team appearance before impressing at Wigan Athletic. A potential move to AC Milan fell through, but he has since excelled at Fulham, racking up over 130 Premier League appearances and earning 50 caps for the United States national team.
Everton’s current left-back situation underscores the need for Robinson. Vitaliy Mykolenko’s contract expires in the summer, Adam Aznou has yet to feature for the first-team, and a loan move for Aznou is being considered. Robinson, 28, still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract and could be an ideal long-term solution. Despite minor dips in form due to injuries and Fulham’s struggles, the combination of Everton’s renewed financial strength and Robinson’s familiarity with the club makes him a prime candidate.
If he arrives, Robinson could slot seamlessly into the squad, partnering with Jack Grealish on the left flank and ensuring Everton have a reliable, long-term option to continue the legacies of Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines.
