Danny Rohl may be better off sidelining Djeidi Gassama in Rangers’ upcoming matchday squads, especially with his likely exit in January looming.
Rangers endured a disappointing Europa League exit on Thursday, falling 2-1 to Ferencvaros in a performance that offered little to build on. Gassama faced criticism for his attitude and body language after being substituted on the hour mark—a worrying sign for the club.
Spanish side Villarreal have reportedly expressed interest in Gassama, making a January transfer a realistic option. For Rangers, cashing in on the French winger could be a smart financial move.
With that in mind, Rohl has the perfect opportunity to trial a replacement. One player, in particular, showcased he is ready to step into the spotlight during the Budapest clash: Findlay Curtis.
Despite limited opportunities this season, Curtis impressed after coming off the bench, displaying energy and efficiency that contrasted sharply with Gassama’s underwhelming display.

Historically, the club has thrived with systems that maximize wide players, and Curtis could benefit immensely from a formation tweak.
Deploying a 4-2-3-1 or similar structure could fully utilize Curtis’ abilities, giving Rangers a much-needed spark while preparing for life without Gassama.
