AliousBrighton centre-back Adam Webster has made it clear that his long-term future remains firmly on the south coast, with the experienced defender hopeful of signing a new contract with the club this summer.
Webster’s current agreement is due to expire at the end of the season, but the 30-year-old has no desire to move on. Instead, he has spoken warmly about his ambition to remain with the Seagulls and described the prospect of finishing his playing career at Brighton as something special.
A Sussex native, Webster arrived at the Amex Stadium in 2019 in a deal worth around £25 million from Bristol City. Since then, the former Ipswich Town defender has become a familiar and reliable presence in the heart of Brighton’s defence, making 158 appearances in all competitions while contributing eight goals and three assists.
At present, Webster is working his way back from a serious knee injury suffered during pre-season. While the setback has kept him sidelined, he is optimistic about returning before the end of the current campaign and is determined to play his part again under head coach Fabian Hürzeler.
Highly regarded within the dressing room, Webster is known as one of the senior voices in the squad. Hürzeler has regularly highlighted his leadership qualities, with Webster forming part of an experienced core that includes Lewis Dunk, James Milner, Danny Welbeck, Joel Veltman and Jason Steele.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Webster explained why Brighton continues to feel like the ideal place for him. He praised the club’s culture, facilities and standards, pointing out that the environment constantly pushes players to improve. Competing in what he described as the best league in the world, combined with the club’s infrastructure, makes Brighton a place he wants to remain for as long as possible.
The defender also believes he still has plenty to offer. Reflecting on last season, he feels he demonstrated his value when fit and is confident he can continue to contribute both on the pitch and behind the scenes as a senior figure.
For now, Webster’s primary focus is on his recovery. Standing at 6ft 3in, the centre-back is eager to return to full fitness and force his way back into Hürzeler’s plans, even if he admits the wait is frustrating.
Like many footballers coming back from injury, Webster joked that he would prefer to be fit “yesterday,” but accepts that patience is required. Having spent seven seasons at Brighton, he recognises that such longevity is rare in modern football, which only strengthens his desire to extend his stay.
As talks loom later in the year, Webster has made his stance clear: he loves life at Brighton, feels he still has much to give, and would relish the chance to commit his future to the club he now calls home.
