Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly decided to cut short a disappointing loan spell for teenage winger Do-young Yoon, with the club already exploring alternative options for his development.
The Seagulls reached an agreement back in March with South Korean side Daejeon Hana Citizen for the highly rated youngster to join the club last summer. The 19-year-old officially arrived at the Amex Stadium in July, but he was not seen as part of new head coach Fabian Hürzeler’s immediate plans for the current campaign.
In a bid to aid his adaptation to European football and provide him with regular first-team action, Brighton sanctioned a loan move to Excelsior Rotterdam. However, the spell in the Netherlands has not gone as hoped.
Yoon has struggled for opportunities, managing just one goal from 170 minutes across seven appearances. Even more concerning for Brighton is the fact that he has played only 15 league minutes over the past three months, highlighting his lack of involvement.
According to *Voetbal International*, Brighton have been left unimpressed by the situation and have now opted to recall the South Korea Under-20 international. As a result, his loan agreement with the Eredivisie side has been terminated early.
Although Yoon will return to Brighton, he is not expected to suddenly force his way into Hürzeler’s first-team thinking. Instead, the club are already assessing fresh loan possibilities to ensure the winger continues his development elsewhere.
FC Dordrecht have emerged as a strong contender to secure his services in the January transfer window. The Dutch second-tier outfit are reportedly keen to take Yoon on loan and are currently viewed as the most likely destination. Should that move fail to materialise, Brighton will be tasked with finding another suitable club before the window closes.
