Spurs planning fresh approach
After that collapsed move, Gibbs-White signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest. However, fresh reports suggest Spurs are preparing to reignite their interest when the summer window reopens.
The North London club are said to be monitoring the situation closely as Forest, who previously secured European qualification, now find themselves battling relegation. Gibbs-White is reportedly weighing up his long-term future, particularly with ambitions of cementing a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Tottenham had previously believed they had triggered the midfielder’s release clause and secured his signing, only for the transfer to dramatically fall apart. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was said to be furious, alleging that Spurs had obtained details of the clause improperly, and ultimately blocked the switch to North London.
Competition and steep asking price
If Tottenham return with a new bid this summer, they are unlikely to find negotiations straightforward. Forest are reportedly determined to command a substantial fee for their star player.
Regardless of whether they remain in the Premier League or drop into the Championship, the Midlands club are expected to hold firm on a valuation between £69 million and £74 million.
Spurs will also face stiff competition, with Manchester United and Chelsea both linked with interest in recent months.
Tottenham, meanwhile, will be eager to secure their own top-flight status this season if they hope to compete financially and competitively with their Premier League rivals for Gibbs-White’s signature.
