AliousJack Wilshere has admitted that facing Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Championship next season would be a dream scenario for him—though his immediate focus remains on achieving promotion with Luton Town.
During a recent press conference, Wilshere was asked whether leading Luton into a Championship clash with Spurs in the 2026–27 campaign would represent the ideal outcome. The 34-year-old responded positively but stressed that his priority right now is guiding the Hatters back up.
“The dream would be to manage Luton in the Championship,” Wilshere said. “I watched a bit of Tottenham last night, and I’ve mentioned before—believe it or not—that many members of my family support Spurs.
“We’ve had plenty of good banter about it over the years. But right now my focus is on managing Luton in the Championship, and maybe one day that could even mean playing against Tottenham.”
Spurs sliding toward relegation
The backdrop to Jack Wilshere’s remarks is the dramatic downturn at Tottenham Hotspur. After suffering a disappointing 3–1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday night, Spurs have dropped to 16th place in the Premier League with 29 points.
The north London side are currently just one point above the relegation zone with only nine matches left to play. As a result, the possibility of Tottenham experiencing their first top-flight relegation since 1977 is becoming an increasingly real concern for supporters.
Wilshere focused on Luton’s promotion push
Despite the ongoing jokes about Spurs’ situation, Wilshere’s attention is firmly on his current job with Luton Town. The Hatters are currently 10th in EFL League One with 47 points, keeping them within reach of the play-off places.
Wilshere understands that if his ambition of managing Luton in the EFL Championship is to become reality, his team must deliver consistent performances during the closing stages of the season.
