Alan Shearer questions Tudor’s future
Speaking to Betfair, the former Newcastle United F.C. striker suggested that Tottenham might even dismiss their new manager Igor Tudor before the season ends if results fail to improve.
Tudor has endured a difficult start since taking charge, losing all three of his opening matches and leaving Spurs firmly involved in the relegation battle.
With the season entering a decisive stage, every point has become crucial. Shearer believes that if Tottenham continue to drop points while their rivals improve, Tudor’s position could quickly become untenable.
He warned that relegation is now a very real possibility for the North London side and said the lack of fight shown by the team is deeply worrying.
Shearer pointed out that it would be almost unimaginable to see Tottenham — a club with a state-of-the-art stadium and world-class training facilities — playing in the second tier of English football. Yet he believes their current form makes that scenario increasingly plausible.
The former striker stressed that Spurs must urgently find unity and belief, particularly after a recent performance that suggested the players had already given up.
He also noted that other teams fighting for survival are showing far more determination. For example, Nottingham Forest F.C. demonstrated resilience in a difficult match against Manchester City F.C., while West Ham United F.C. have managed to drag several clubs deeper into the relegation fight.
According to Shearer, Tottenham going down would rank among the biggest surprises in Premier League history — comparable in scale to Leicester City F.C.’s astonishing title triumph in the 2015–16 Premier League.
Shearer: Spurs would deserve relegation if form doesn’t change
Tottenham once held a comfortable seven-point cushion over West Ham, but after three consecutive defeats under Tudor that gap has shrunk to just one point.
Shearer went even further in his criticism, arguing that Spurs would deserve relegation if their current performances continue.
He said that after watching their display against Newcastle earlier in the season, he began to believe that relegation was genuinely possible because the team lacked intensity, determination and the right mentality.
The former England captain added that Tottenham’s most recent performance summed up their entire campaign — a team that looks disorganised and fragile both on and off the pitch.
Confidence among the players appears extremely low. While injuries have affected the squad, Shearer emphasised that every team deals with injuries during a season, so Tottenham cannot rely on that as an excuse.
He also pointed out that their struggles did not begin this season. The warning signs were already visible last year, even though many believed such a decline could not happen again.
If Spurs ultimately fall into the EFL Championship, Shearer insists the club will only have themselves to blame.
