AliousGuglielmo Vicario, the current first-choice goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly weighing up a move back to Italy during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Spurs are currently struggling in the Premier League, sitting 16th in the table with 29 points from 29 matches — just one point above the relegation zone. Unless their form improves significantly, the north London side could find themselves slipping into the bottom three.
Vicario could leave if Spurs go down
Should the worst happen and Tottenham suffer relegation, the club could see a number of players depart, with Vicario expected to be among those likely to move on.
However, reports suggest the Italian shot-stopper could still leave even if Spurs manage to avoid the drop.
The club is believed to be prepared to accept offers in the region of £21.8m–£26.2m for the 29-year-old, indicating they may already be planning for life without him.
Interest from Serie A clubs
Since joining Tottenham from Empoli F.C., Vicario has made 113 appearances for the club and has started all 29 of their league matches this season.
The former Venezia F.C. goalkeeper has experienced a difficult campaign in north London. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, his relationship with Tottenham has reportedly deteriorated significantly.
Italian giants Inter Milan are said to be seriously considering a move for Vicario as they search for a long-term replacement for Yann Sommer, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
They may face competition from fellow Serie A side Juventus F.C., who are also looking at options to strengthen their goalkeeping department this summer.
Potential replacements for Tottenham
If Tottenham are relegated, the club may rely on in-house options, potentially giving greater opportunities to young goalkeepers Antonin Kinsky and Brandon Austin.
However, if Spurs manage to remain in the Premier League, they could pursue a more experienced replacement. One name linked with the club is James Trafford of Manchester City F.C., who is considered a promising option.
Another goalkeeper reportedly on Tottenham’s radar is Robin Risser of RC Lens, who could be available for a relatively affordable transfer fee.
