Everton delivered one of their best performances of the season on Saturday night, thrashing Chelsea 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Beto scored twice before assisting Iliman Ndiaye, and the Toffees’ pressing and work-rate was absolutely superb.

There were so many fantastic individual performances.

David Moyes felt James Garner was the best player on the pitch, but plenty of others have been talking up the goalscorers.

But Jordan Pickford once again made contributions to an Everton win, and Wayne Rooney really did nail it with his verdict.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney said of Pickford: “He was (sublime). I think he’s been incredible for many years now, and not just for Everton but for England.

“The saves he’s making are unreal. He’s winning them massive points.

“Then these saves, both at 1-0 so really important saves. This is brave as well. You see the centre-forward come in, and he’s diving where the feet are. He’s making so many good saves and winning Everton so many points.

“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. I really don’t.”

Pickford made a rare error against Arsenal last weekend, but instantly hit back with another sensational performance against Chelsea.

“You look at the save here, his reactions, he goes for the first one and to get up that quick and Enzo Fernandez is, what, six yards out and he absolutely blasts it and gets up and gets a good hand on it. That is a incredible save.

It really is remarkable how consistent he is, and the stopper will again be in contention for another Everton Player of the Season award.

Many will share the sentiments of Rooney that Pickford doesn’t actually get the credit that reflects his brilliance. Evertonians will, anyway.

Gary Lineker recently suggested Pickford should be considered among the world’s best goalkeepers by most fans. It still feels like he isn’t, but he should be.

He constantly shows a high level, and Everton may actually have dropped out of the top-flight without him.

If he continues in this way, he will surely finish his career with many seeing him as a Premier League great.
