AliousDejan Kulusevski joined up with the Swedish national team on Wednesday as they prepare for a decisive World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine.
The Tottenham forward has not featured this season following patella surgery last May, but he remains eager to support his country in their bid to secure qualification for North America.
Reports from Swedish outlet Aftonbladet noted that Kulusevski appeared to be limping during a training session, a sight that may raise concerns for Spurs.
Although he did not provide a detailed update on his condition, the winger struck a confident tone ahead of Thursday’s clash in Valencia, simply stating: “There will be a win, that’s my comment.”
Kulusevski continues to work hard on his recovery, aiming to return before the season concludes, though the complexity of his injury leaves no guarantees.
He was also seen speaking with Sweden manager Graham Potter during training, with Liverpool striker Alexander Isak another notable absentee for the Ukraine fixture.
Potter had already mentioned earlier in the week that Kulusevski, who is currently in Spain, would likely link up with the squad. “Dejan is in Spain, so I think he will come and see us. It will be great to have him around. At his stage of recovery, it’s fine for him,” he said. “For others, it’s more challenging depending on where they are in their rehab, but it will be fantastic to have him with us.”
Meanwhile, Tottenham interim boss Igor Tudor admitted he had no fresh update on Kulusevski before the 3-0 Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest, although there is optimism that James Maddison could return before the campaign ends.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive previous season, contributing 10 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, and played a key role in Ange Postecoglou’s side that went on to win the Europa League in Bilbao, despite missing the final.
In recent months, there have also been unconfirmed reports linking Kulusevski with a visit to renowned Barcelona-based knee specialist Ramon Cugat. Back in December, Thomas Frank disclosed that the player had received an injection, with Tottenham monitoring his response, though updates since then have been limited.
