AliousA fresh development has surfaced regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in appointing Roberto De Zerbi.
Igor Tudor is expected to part ways with Spurs by mutual agreement this week after struggling to inspire the squad since taking over from Thomas Frank in February.
Under his leadership, Tottenham have lost four of their five matches, slipping further into danger near the bottom of the Premier League table. The North London side now sit just one point above the relegation zone with only seven games remaining.
Several names have been mentioned as possible interim solutions, including Adi Hutter and Chris Hughton, while Ryan Mason, Sean Dyche and Robbie Keane have also been linked with the role.
Tottenham push for De Zerbi
Reports earlier on Wednesday suggested Spurs were accelerating efforts to appoint a permanent manager before the end of the season, with De Zerbi emerging as their top target.
The Italian recently stepped down from his position at Marseille shortly before Thomas Frank’s dismissal, sparking speculation that Tottenham had already identified him as their next manager.
While that scenario did not materialize immediately, the club are still eager to open talks with De Zerbi about taking charge on a long-term basis.
Decision delayed until summer
However, fresh updates from Italy indicate that De Zerbi is not planning an immediate return to management. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, he intends to stick to his original plan of waiting until the summer before making a decision on his future.
Although he has not ruled out Tottenham, the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss prefers to assess all available opportunities at the end of the season. He is said to have already decided against taking any job before then.
Tottenham are understood to still view both De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino as leading candidates for the permanent position.
With a short break before their next Premier League fixture, Spurs officials are currently holding internal discussions over whether another managerial change is necessary before the campaign concludes. A decision is expected soon, allowing any potential replacement time to implement their ideas within the squad.
