He added that results elsewhere could intensify the pressure. If West Ham defeat Wolves, Spurs risk dropping into the relegation zone, a situation that would dramatically raise the stakes.

According to Merson, once a team falls into the bottom three, the psychological and competitive landscape changes completely, making survival even harder.

A victory for West Ham would lift them out of the relegation zone, at least temporarily, for the first time in months, while simultaneously increasing the pressure on Tottenham and their new manager.
