Eintracht Frankfurt may be interested in signing Rasmus Kristensen permanently from Leeds United. According to Ben Jacobs, the Bundesliga club could try to renegotiate the existing permanent option in Kristensen’s loan deal if they want to secure him long-term.
Kristensen could have been an important player for Leeds this season, as they faced a shortage of right-back options early on. Several departures left them thin at that position, with Luke Ayling, Cody Drameh, Jamie Shackleton, and Connor Roberts all leaving. Archie Gray also departed, joining Tottenham after a strong 2023/24 campaign with Leeds.
Despite these losses, Leeds were able to bring in Jayden Bogle and Isaac Schmidt permanently to reinforce the right side of their defense. At one point, it seemed Kristensen might stay at Elland Road for 2024/25 despite his previous loan spell at AS Roma.
However, Kristensen ended up joining Frankfurt on loan instead, while Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober remained with Leeds after their own loan moves.
Jacobs believes that after going out on loan twice, Kristensen is likely to leave Leeds permanently at some point. Frankfurt, his current loan club, may try to sign him permanently, but could look to renegotiate the existing €15m option to buy in an effort to get a better deal for themselves.
If Leeds fail to gain promotion, Frankfurt may be able to land Kristensen for a “bargain” price. But Jacobs says it’s too early to say for sure what will happen.
The report suggests Leeds may be best served by cashing in on Kristensen, even if they do get promoted. Kristensen doesn’t seem keen to play for Leeds in the Championship, and the €15m could boost their summer 2025 transfer budget. The fans may also not be eager to see him return after his loan spells away.
In contrast, Aaronson and Wober have the chance to redeem themselves and show loyalty to Leeds. Kristensen may not have that same opportunity after his multiple loan moves.
Ultimately, Leeds’ best-case scenario is getting promoted, as that would put them in a stronger position to demand the full €15m from Frankfurt for Kristensen’s permanent transfer.
