Tottenham insider John Wenham has urged new head coach Roberto De Zerbi to consider offloading two players he shares a notable connection with.

Spurs have endured a miserable campaign and are currently hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone. Sitting only a point clear of danger, the club is already on its third manager of the season, with De Zerbi following Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

Avoiding relegation is De Zerbi’s immediate priority, but once survival is secured, attention will turn to reshaping a squad that has underperformed throughout the season.

Wenham believes two players should be among the first to leave, despite their shared Italian background with the new manager. He singled out Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie, arguing that both have fallen short this season.

While he acknowledged Udogie’s talent, Wenham questioned his reliability due to ongoing fitness issues, suggesting Tottenham should move him on and bring in a more dependable left-back. He also expressed doubts about Vicario’s long-term future at the club.

Interestingly, De Zerbi has historically shown a preference for working with Italian players. Among those he has relied on most during his managerial career are Andrea Consigli, Domenico Berardi, Manuel Locatelli, and Gian Marco Ferrari.

Despite that trend, signs already point to a possible departure for Vicario. Reports in February indicated that Tottenham had stepped up their search for a new goalkeeper, with Robin Risser among the names being considered. There have also been suggestions that De Zerbi is keen on a reunion with Locatelli, one of his most trusted players from his time in Italy.

Elsewhere, the future of Cristian Romero has also come into focus. His father recently hinted that any interested club would need to meet a valuation in the region of $50–70 million (£37.8m–£53m) to secure his transfer.

There has, however, been some early optimism surrounding De Zerbi’s arrival, with reports claiming his first training session left a strong impression on the squad. Additionally, the Italian is said to be exploring a move for Tarik Muharemovic from his former club Sassuolo as he begins shaping the team to his liking.
