Super Eagles forward and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal of the season as his team secured a dominant 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Monday.

Awoniyi started the match on the bench, with the in-form Chris Wood leading Forest’s attack. Fellow Nigerian international Ola Aina, however, was included in the starting XI at right-back.

Forest began the game on the front foot, taking an early lead through Morgan Gibbs-White. The midfielder, facing his former team, slotted home a perfectly timed cut-back from Anthony Elanga. Just before halftime, Callum Hudson-Odoi orchestrated a brilliant attacking move, bursting down the flank to set up Chris Wood for a clinical finish, extending Forest’s advantage.

Desperate to make an impact, Awoniyi was introduced in the 88th minute, replacing Wood. The 27-year-old had an early chance to score when Matt Doherty failed to clear a long ball, but Awoniyi was unable to capitalize. However, in the final moments of the game, he made amends. Hudson-Odoi delivered a precise cross-field pass to James Ward-Prowse, who selflessly teed up Awoniyi for a simple tap-in. The striker’s relief was palpable as he celebrated his milestone goal alongside teammates who mobbed him at the final whistle, reflecting the high regard in which he is held.

The victory solidifies Forest’s impressive season, propelling them to third place in the Premier League table with 40 points from 20 matches. They are tied with Arsenal on points but trail on goal difference, while league leaders Liverpool remain six points ahead.

Looking ahead, Forest will turn their attention to the FA Cup, where they face Luton Town. With a tight schedule and a crucial league fixture against Liverpool looming, manager Nuno Espírito Santo is expected to rotate his squad, potentially offering Awoniyi a starting opportunity to build on his recent success.
