he Uruguayan striker has struggled for form this season under Arne Slot, managing just four goals in 26 appearances.
Despite starting 14 games, Nunez has often found himself playing second fiddle to Diogo Jota and, more recently, watching Luis Diaz take over the central attacking role.
This decline in prominence has fueled speculation about his future at Anfield.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Saudi Arabian clubs are showing significant interest in the forward, although Liverpool have yet to receive any formal offers.
For now, Nunez’s absence from Tuesday’s fixture isn’t due to transfer talks but rather a suspension.
He picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season in the match against Manchester United, ruling him out of the Forest game.
While he has featured in domestic cup competitions, including matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Accrington Stanley, he will return to league action for Liverpool’s trip to Brentford on Saturday.
Liverpool will also be without defender Joe Gomez, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the game against West Ham United last month.
Head coach Arne Slot confirmed that Gomez is not yet close to making a return.
With Nunez unavailable, Slot is expected to restore his preferred attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo for the City Ground clash.
Ibrahima Konaté is also likely to return to bolster Liverpool’s defense as they aim to maintain momentum in their Premier League campaign.
