AliousTrevoh Chalobah has bid an emotional farewell to Crystal Palace fans following his early recall by Chelsea.
One of the more perplexing stories of the January transfer window was resolved on Wednesday when Chelsea announced they had exercised their option to recall Chalobah from his season-long loan at Selhurst Park.
In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed, “Defender Trevoh Chalobah has been recalled from his loan at Premier League side Crystal Palace.
The Academy graduate, who joined the Eagles on loan in August, made 14 appearances under Oliver Glasner and scored three goals.
Chalobah, who has played 80 times for Chelsea, will rejoin the first-team squad under Enzo Maresca and will wear the No. 23 shirt.”
Crystal Palace echoed the announcement ahead of their Premier League match against Leicester City, stating: “Crystal Palace can confirm that Chelsea have activated their option to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell. The defender will now return to Stamford Bridge.
Since joining Palace in August, Chalobah made 14 appearances, scoring three goals, including a crucial opener in our 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last month.
We thank Trevoh for his hard work and contributions and wish him all the best in the future.”
Though Chalobah spent less than five months at Palace, he was clearly impacted by his time there.
On his official X account, the center-back expressed his gratitude, writing: “It was short and sweet, but this club made such an impact on me so quickly.
From day one, I was made to feel at home by the staff, teammates, community, and you, the supporters.
The atmosphere at Selhurst Park was electric every game. Thank you all! Trev.”
Back at Chelsea, Chalobah will now compete with defenders like Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, and Tosin Adarabioyo for a spot in central defense.
The team is currently dealing with injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, while Axel Disasi’s future remains uncertain after being excluded from Maresca’s squad for their recent 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
Reports suggest Chelsea may consider selling Chalobah permanently during the summer transfer window if the player wishes to leave the club.
