Everton are reportedly preparing for discussions to secure a deal for Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell, a player earning £200k-per-week and described as “exceptional.”

While strengthening their attack remains a priority, with interest in Barcelona’s Vitor Roque and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson on loan, the Toffees are also focused on reinforcing their defensive options.

This includes targeting Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, who could be sold this month, and Ajax captain Devyne Rensch, both of whom are seen as cost-effective options with expiring contracts.

Manager David Moyes may aim to bring in multiple full-backs this January to address the aging duo of Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young.

The 28-year-old Chilwell, who has struggled to find consistent game time under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, has now emerged as a priority target.

However, Everton’s ability to secure Chilwell hinges on the potential departure of Armando Broja, which would free up a loan slot for the Merseyside club.

Chilwell, once a key figure for both Leicester City and Chelsea, has 21 England caps to his name and was praised by Brendan Rodgers as “exceptional” during his time with the Foxes.

Injuries have limited his recent contributions, but his talent and experience make him a strong candidate to challenge Vitaliy Mykolenko for the starting left-back role.

Given Chilwell’s status as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, there’s optimism that a loan move could be finalized.

If he can regain his previous form, Chilwell would represent a major upgrade in Everton’s defense and could play a pivotal role in their push for stability in the second half of the season.
