AliousCrystal Palace have reportedly submitted a bid exceeding £10 million for a player described as the “complete package,” as they continue to strengthen their squad in the final days of the January transfer window.
Crystal Palace’s January Business
The Eagles have already made moves in this window, including the signing of Romain Esse from Millwall, as they aim to climb further up the Premier League table and away from the relegation battle.
With just over a week remaining, Palace are eager to secure at least one more addition to their roster.
According to reports, Palace have submitted a £13 million bid for El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague.
However, the offer falls short of the Czech club’s £17 million valuation of the player.
Meanwhile, Palace could face a significant loss, with Manchester United showing interest in left-back Tyrick Mitchell.
The defender, out of contract in the summer, has also attracted attention from Atlético Madrid and AC Milan. United may push for a January deal rather than waiting until the summer.
Palace’s Bid for Batista Mendy
Crystal Palace are also targeting Trabzonspor midfielder Batista Mendy.
Turkish outlet *Güne Bakış*, via *Sport Witness*, claims Palace have tabled a €12 million (£10.09 million) offer for the defensive midfielder, who has been on their radar since the summer.
However, Ligue 1 side Rennes are also in the race, having submitted a slightly higher bid of €13 million.
Despite Palace’s offer, Mendy reportedly favors a move to France, as Rennes remain in discussions with Trabzonspor.
To complicate matters further, Trabzonspor is holding out for €15 million (around £12 million), meaning both clubs will need to raise their bids to secure the player.
Why Mendy Could Be a Game-Changer
Mendy has been praised as a “complete package,” capable of adding much-needed solidity to Crystal Palace’s midfield.
He could serve as a strong replacement for Adam Wharton, who is currently sidelined with an injury.
While primarily a defensive midfielder, Mendy is versatile enough to drop into central defense when needed, giving head coach Oliver Glasner additional options for his squad.
With Palace competing against Rennes for Mendy’s signature, it remains to be seen whether they can meet Trabzonspor’s valuation and convince the player to choose the Premier League over Ligue 1.
As the transfer window ticks down, Palace will be hoping to end on a high note with at least one key signing secured.
