On Sunday, the Ukrainian forward expressed his gratitude to Sunderland, thanking the club for facilitating the move and sharing his excitement about beginning his journey with Hajduk Split.
Recently, Rusyn addressed claims made by journalist Igor Tsyganskiy in an interview with Dynamo Mania. Tsyganskiy had alleged that Sunderland’s decision to loan out the player was influenced by club president Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’s supposed dislike of Rusyn’s pro-Ukraine stance.
Rusyn firmly denied these allegations, calling them entirely false. He clarified that he enjoyed a positive relationship with Louis-Dreyfus and was treated with respect throughout his time at Sunderland. “This is a complete lie. I have never said that to anyone. Everyone at Sunderland supports Ukraine. And I had a good relationship with the president. I don’t know what his roots are there, but he has always treated me with respect,” he stated.
The striker joined Sunderland from Zorya Luhansk in the summer of 2023. He featured in 32 matches, totaling just over 1,000 minutes of playtime, with only 162 minutes coming from this season. His limited opportunities under manager Régis Le Bris prompted the decision to seek regular game time on loan at Hajduk Split. Rusyn now hopes to thrive under the guidance of Gennaro Gattuso at the Croatian club.
The journalist’s claims about anti-Ukraine sentiment are unfounded and baseless. Rusyn deserves credit for addressing the matter clearly and firmly, setting the record straight.
