JUST NOW: Sunderland star edging closer to exit as Championship club targets his replacement in late transfer twist!

Sunderland’s Transfer Business Heats Up: Potential Exit on the Horizon

As the January transfer window nears its conclusion, Sunderland remain active in their pursuit of new signings.

However, while much of the focus is on bolstering the squad, outgoings are also a possibility—with one player in particular looking increasingly likely to depart.

Sunderland have their sights set on strengthening ahead of the deadline, knowing that additional squad depth could be crucial for their promotion push.

While things are looking promising for the Black Cats, manager Regis Le Bris is aware that reinforcements are needed to maintain momentum in the Championship.

The club has been linked with several potential signings, particularly in the striker department.

Targets such as Matija Frigan and Semih Kilicsoy have been rumored, though no deal has been finalized.

Meanwhile, there has also been speculation regarding potential departures, with one key player attracting interest from Germany.

Aouchiche’s Future in Doubt as Portsmouth Show Interest

One player who could be on the move is Adil Aouchiche.

The French midfielder has endured a frustrating campaign, struggling for regular minutes despite reuniting with former Lorient boss Le Bris at Sunderland.

Reports suggest he was keen on an exit last summer, and his current situation at the Stadium of Light hasn’t improved.

After spending much of the season on the fringes of the squad, Aouchiche was handed more opportunities towards the end of 2024 due to injuries to Romain Mundle and Tommy Watson.

However, with both players expected to return soon, the 22-year-old may find himself out of the picture once again.

According to *Portsmouth News*, Championship side Portsmouth are now considering a late loan move for Aouchiche.

Pompey, currently struggling in the league, are eager to add creativity to their squad before the transfer window shuts.

Le Bris Addresses Aouchiche’s Uncertain Future

Speaking recently, Le Bris admitted that Aouchiche’s situation remains unresolved, hinting that a move away is still on the table.

Before Aaron Connolly’s switch to Millwall, Le Bris commented on the Frenchman’s future, stating:

*”With Adil, it’s still open and it’s exactly the same case as Aaron [Connolly]. We want for both sides, Adil and the club, to open up different options, and at the end, we will decide what is the better option for both.”*

With Mundle and Watson’s return imminent, Aouchiche’s chances of breaking into the first team seem slim.

A loan move could provide him with much-needed game time while also keeping him in the shop window ahead of the summer.

Whether Sunderland will sanction his departure remains to be seen, but the Frenchman’s future at the club looks increasingly uncertain.
