AliousNewcastle United made the difficult decision to offload Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, respectively, in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid potential sanctions, including a points deduction.
Since making the switch to the City Ground, Anderson has hit the ground running, quickly establishing himself as a key player for Forest. Meanwhile, Minteh’s early days at Brighton have been more of a mixed bag.
The 20-year-old Gambian winger has shown glimpses of his talent, netting three goals for the Seagulls—including a memorable strike at Old Trafford in their victory over Manchester United. However, he has yet to cement himself as a regular starter under manager Fabian Hürzeler, who left him out of the starting XI against Everton last weekend.
Hürzeler later revealed that Minteh’s omission was due to disciplinary reasons, as he had missed the team’s scheduled meeting on the morning of the match. Speaking ahead of Brighton’s upcoming clash against Nottingham Forest—where Minteh will face off against Anderson—Hürzeler addressed the situation, emphasizing the importance of consistent communication with young players.
“I always have conversations with my players, especially the younger ones,” he explained. “It’s crucial to maintain an open dialogue, ensuring they feel comfortable in this environment. Many come from different cultures and countries, so helping them adapt and understand our values, club standards, and expectations is a continuous process—not just something that happens after an incident.”
Minteh will now be looking to regain his manager’s trust and push for a more prominent role in the Brighton squad as the season progresses.
