A moment of applause will take place at Ibrox Stadium to honor the memory of Christopher Potter, a devoted Rangers supporter who tragically lost his life in Turkey.
The 40-year-old father-of-three had traveled to Istanbul alongside thousands of fellow Rangers fans to witness the club’s Europa League clash against Fenerbahçe. However, during his time there, Christopher was involved in a fatal road accident.
In tribute to his life and unwavering support for Rangers, fans attending the second-leg match at Ibrox on Thursday are being encouraged to participate in a minute’s applause at the 40th-minute mark.
Rangers FC Pays Tribute
Rangers Football Club expressed their condolences in a statement shared on social media, saying:
*”We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of lifelong supporter Christopher Potter in Istanbul, ahead of our UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first-leg match against Fenerbahçe last week.
Christopher was truly one of a kind, and we urge all fans attending Ibrox tomorrow evening to join in the 40th-minute applause in tribute to one of our own.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him, and the thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”*
A Heartfelt Tribute from Christopher’s Wife
Christopher’s wife, Holly, shared an emotional statement, reflecting on the impact he had on those around him.
*”We are absolutely devastated by Christopher’s passing. He was a hardworking and devoted family man who always made time for his loved ones.
Never short of a witty or funny remark, he was the life and soul of every party. He loved karaoke—once he had the microphone, it was impossible to get it back from him.
He also had a passion for food and was famous among family and friends for sharing photos of his meals.
Beyond his family and friends, the other great love of his life was Glasgow Rangers. The only small comfort we have is knowing that he was following the team he adored when he passed away.
Christopher was a proud Dennistoun native, known affectionately as ‘Mr. Duke Street.’ I always joked that walking along Duke Street with him was frustrating because he stopped to chat with so many people—he was truly loved by everyone.
The support we have received has been overwhelming. The GoFundMe page set up in his memory has raised an incredible amount. No amount of money can bring Christopher back, but the funds will be used to support his children.
We ask for privacy as we try to navigate this unbearable loss.
Fly high, Christopher. We loved you so much.”*
Community Support and Fundraising Efforts
A fundraising campaign set up by Christopher’s loved ones has received overwhelming support, surpassing £169,000.
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson contributed £1,000, offering his condolences on the fundraising page, while current club captain James Tavernier also made a donation. Former Premier League and Scotland international Robert Snodgrass, comedian Gary Faulds, and businessman Andy Smillie—who donated an astonishing £10,000—are among others who have supported the cause.
### Rangers’ Global Influence and Celebrity Fans
As one of the world’s most recognizable football clubs, Rangers have a dedicated fanbase that extends far beyond Glasgow. Among their many supporters are high-profile figures from various industries, including celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and actress Shay Mitchell.
Ramsay, a well-known Rangers fan, attended an Old Firm derby at Ibrox in 2024, sharing his VIP matchday experience while dressed in a sharp suit and blue tie, holding a Rangers shirt with his name printed on the back.
Mitchell, best known for her roles in *Pretty Little Liars* and *You*, was recently seen wearing a Rangers jersey while enjoying the sun, further proving the club’s global reach.
Christopher Potter’s memory will live on through the love and support of his family, friends, and the Rangers community. His tribute at Ibrox will serve as a reminder of the strong bond between the club and its fans, honoring one of their own in a way befitting his passion for the team.
