Former Rangers player and pundit Derek Ferguson, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, believes the club’s fortunes could turn sooner than many expect.
While off-field restructuring might take years, he’s optimistic about a quicker turnaround on the pitch.
“Rangers are in this mess because the wrong people have been in key roles,” Ferguson explained.
“A methodical approach is the smart play—you won’t fix everything in three to six months; it might take a couple of years to get the structure right. But if they show they’ve got a clear strategy, that’s the path to progress.”
He added, “Sorting out the club behind the scenes could take up to four years to get everyone in the right spots. On the field, though? That’s a different story.
I don’t buy what some pundits say about it taking five or six years to catch Celtic. It can flip in a single season with the right manager and players in place. The owners need time to build the foundation, but on-pitch results can shift fast.”

The spotlight is increasingly on Barry Ferguson, whose caretaker stint has sparked calls for a permanent role after an impressive start.
Whether it’s him, a return for Steven Gerrard, Southampton’s Russell Martin, or another name in the mix, the new ownership’s top priority is nailing this appointment.
