Danso was involved in the buildup to that late goal after losing possession, and later revealed via social media that he was subjected to racist abuse following the match.
The 27-year-old addressed the situation on Instagram, expressing both disappointment with the result and defiance in the face of abuse. He made it clear that while such behaviour is unacceptable, it will not define him or distract him from his focus. Emphasising his identity, values, and purpose, Danso vowed to keep working hard, remain focused, and come back stronger in the upcoming matches, urging unity and belief within the team.
Tottenham, who signed Danso from RC Lens last year, also issued a strong statement condemning the abuse.
The club confirmed that since the match—played during the Premier League’s No Room for Racism campaign—Danso has been subjected to severe and ongoing racist abuse online. They described the messages as vile and dehumanising, stressing that such conduct is criminal and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Tottenham stated that immediate steps are being taken, including reporting the abuse to the Metropolitan Police, relevant international authorities, and social media platforms. The club is committed to identifying those responsible and ensuring the strongest possible action is taken against them.
They reaffirmed their full and unconditional support for Danso, both as a player and as an individual, making it clear that no one at the club should face such abuse alone.
The statement also underlined that performance on the pitch can never justify discrimination, drawing a clear line between legitimate criticism and racism, which has no place in football or society.
Additionally, the club highlighted its collaboration with specialist organisations to monitor and investigate online abuse, noting that offenders could face serious consequences, including criminal charges, stadium bans, fines, or custodial sentences. Tottenham also pointed out that they have previously secured convictions in similar cases, even involving individuals based overseas.
Finally, the club called on platforms such as X and Instagram to act swiftly on reports of racist abuse, while encouraging supporters to report any such incidents directly so appropriate action can be taken.
Their message was unequivocal: racism has no place at Tottenham Hotspur, and no place in football.
