AliousLeon Balogun has managed to reclaim a spot in the Rangers lineup under the guidance of interim manager Barry Ferguson, yet it seems his tenure with the club is nearing its conclusion.
The seasoned defender has featured in five of the six games overseen by Ferguson, earning a starting position in the last three. However, his performance in the recent 4-3 victory against Dundee was notably subpar, resulting in his substitution at halftime.
At 36 years old, Balogun might be approaching the twilight of his second stint with Rangers as his contract edges toward its expiration in July.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Derek praised Balogun’s contributions since his return but highlighted his age and susceptibility to injuries as reasons to move on.
“He’s performed admirably, but at 36 and with his injury history, it’s time for him to seek opportunities elsewhere,” Derek remarked.
He questioned whether Balogun is worth a new deal, suggesting the club needs a fresher, more robust alternative—a centre-back with speed, strength, and aerial prowess—rather than relying on someone as “fragile” as Balogun.
Injuries have indeed hampered Balogun’s consistency this campaign, underscoring the need for a steadier defensive option in the future. Rangers’ management is likely already exploring the transfer market to identify a suitable successor who can seamlessly integrate next season, either partnering with an existing player or joining a revamped backline.
Securing a centre-back who embodies the qualities Derek Ferguson outlined—pace, power, and aerial dominance—won’t be a simple task, but it’s certainly achievable.
