AliousGuglielmo Vicario is expected to bring his three-year stint in North London to a close this summer, with the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper already in talks with Inter Milan over a move. Reports suggest the Italian has agreed to a four-year contract worth €3 million annually.
Despite being Spurs’ first-choice keeper for the past three seasons, Vicario has struggled to fully convince supporters or provide the consistency the team needs. With both player and club seemingly ready to move on, a return to Italy has been on the cards for some time—especially as he continues his recovery from hernia surgery.
As Tottenham prepare for life after Vicario, they have set their sights on James Trafford of Manchester City as a potential successor. However, interest from rivals Chelsea could complicate any deal for the 23-year-old, who has largely played second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma this season.
With that in mind, Spurs are exploring alternative options. One surprise name on their shortlist is Karl Darlow of Leeds United. According to reports, the North London club are monitoring the experienced shot-stopper, who could be available on a free transfer if he does not renew his contract.
Darlow, who joined Leeds from Newcastle United in 2023, initially found himself on the bench. However, following inconsistent performances from Lucas Perri, he has stepped in as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in recent months. The 35-year-old has started Leeds’ last 11 league matches and played a key role in their upturn in form, including a notable 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
While Darlow brings valuable top-flight experience, he is unlikely to be viewed as a long-term solution for Tottenham. Instead, he could serve as a backup option—particularly if the club succeeds in landing Trafford as their new No.1.
For such a move to make sense, Spurs may need to loan out or sell Antonín Kinský during the summer window. Whether Tottenham can secure Darlow on a free transfer remains to be seen, but his situation at Leeds will be one to watch closely in the coming months.
