Rabbi Matondo, a winger from Rangers, is currently on loan at Hannover, a German club, for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old has appeared in seven 2.Bundesliga matches this year, after featuring in six league games for Rangers earlier. Reports suggest Hannover has the option to purchase the Welsh international permanently at the season’s end.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are eager to offload the skillful player during the upcoming summer transfer period.

However, it’s uncertain whether Hannover will exercise their option to buy, as Matondo hasn’t been a regular fixture in their lineup either—starting just two of his seven league outings.

There’s no clear sign yet that Hannover intends to secure him permanently. Meanwhile, despite having a year left on his contract, Matondo’s time at Rangers appears to be drawing to a close.

The club is reportedly determined to move him on, as his performances have consistently failed to meet expectations.

Since arriving at Ibrox in 2022, Matondo has scored a mere eight goals across 67 appearances, predominantly off the bench, underscoring his struggle to earn a consistent starting spot.

His stint at Hannover has been similarly lackluster, offering little evidence of untapped potential.

With his high salary weighing on the club’s finances, Matondo represents a burden Rangers need to shed to refine their roster.

To ensure his exit, Rangers should proactively promote him in the summer market, targeting teams in lower-tier European divisions or England’s EFL Championship, where his speed could still draw attention.

Proposing a reasonable transfer fee or a loan-with-option-to-buy arrangement might sweeten the deal for prospective buyers, freeing up resources for Rangers to pursue a more dependable attacking talent for the next campaign.
