Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly added River Plate’s rising talent Santiago Lencina to their radar ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to a report from *River Noticias*.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has stood out in River Plate’s reserve setup, contributing an impressive seven goals and 11 assists across 39 appearances since the beginning of 2023. Lencina earned his senior debut in August 2024 and has featured twice for the first team so far in 2025. Despite his progress, he was left out of Argentina’s squad for the U20 South American Championship held in Venezuela earlier this year.
Nevertheless, his performances have not gone unnoticed. Brighton are said to be closely monitoring his development, with interest brewing ahead of a potential move to the Premier League. River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo is reportedly worried about losing the youngster, who is considered one of the club’s emerging prospects likely to depart in the next transfer window.
Lencina is under contract with the Argentine giants until December 2026, and *River Noticias* suggests he carries a valuation of around $40 million [€35.2 million]. However, that figure appears inflated given the player’s limited senior experience, and it remains unclear whether Brighton would be willing to meet such a price tag for a largely unproven prospect.
For now, the Seagulls appear to be in the scouting phase, keeping tabs on Lencina as they continue their strategy of targeting high-upside young talents from South America.
