Chelsea’s relentless pursuit of Brighton’s top talent could soon continue with another major swoop—this time for exciting French playmaker Georginio. However, Brighton are standing firm, and the message is clear: only a massive offer will bring their record signing to Stamford Bridge.
In recent years, Chelsea have poured over £1 billion into new signings, with Brighton benefitting significantly from that spree—raking in around £225 million for the likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sánchez, and former boss Graham Potter. Yet, despite their heavy investment, Chelsea remain sixth in the table and inconsistent under Enzo Maresca.
The solution for Chelsea? More Brighton reinforcements, it seems.
Transfer insider Florian Plettenberg reports that the Blues have now added Georginio to their transfer shortlist. The French midfielder, who arrived at Brighton from Leeds United last summer for a club-record £40 million, has been a revelation in the No. 10 role, scoring eight goals and assisting five more in all competitions.
His dynamic link-up play with forwards Danny Welbeck and João Pedro has been vital to Brighton’s attacking rhythm, and his performances have helped justify the club’s significant investment—an outlay that chief executive Paul Barber admitted made him “uncomfortable” at the time.
Unfortunately, Georginio’s season may be over after he sustained an ankle injury in the FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest. He was recently spotted wearing a protective boot and has been sidelined during a poor run of form that has seen Brighton struggle in the final weeks of the campaign.
Still, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Chelsea, Tottenham, and other top clubs have been tracking his progress. Brighton, however, are in no rush to sell. The 22-year-old is tied down to a long-term contract until 2028, and the club is under no financial pressure to part ways.
In fact, Brighton’s stance is firm: if Chelsea—or any club—want Georginio this summer, they’ll need to table an offer north of £100 million. Given his age, form, and potential, even an £80 million bid is expected to fall short of Albion’s valuation.
Brighton are also bracing for interest in other key stars, including Kaoru Mitoma, João Pedro, and Carlos Baleba, all of whom have drawn attention from Premier League heavyweights. But Georginio, according to insiders, is expected to stay put unless an astronomical bid comes in.
The Seagulls remain focused on a late push for European qualification, and with Georginio’s influence on the pitch already evident, their resolve to keep him couldn’t be stronger. Chelsea may be circling, but Brighton hold all the cards—and they won’t play unless the price is right.
