Juventus shelled out €13 million to bring in João Costa from Vitoria Guimaraes during the winter transfer window, hoping the promising 21-year-old would strengthen their squad amid Andrea Cambiaso’s injury concerns. However, the move hasn’t gone as planned. Costa has only managed five substitute appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, failing to make the expected impact.
According to TuttoJuve’s Mirko Di Natale, Juventus are now open to moving the Portuguese defender in the summer — but not on a permanent basis just yet. A loan deal is viewed as the preferred path, allowing the Bianconeri to retain long-term control while offering Costa valuable game time elsewhere.
A range of clubs from across Europe are said to be monitoring his situation. Domestically, AC Milan — who previously considered him before pivoting to Kyle Walker — along with Atalanta and Fiorentina, remain in the frame. A return to Portugal is also on the table, with Porto, Braga, and Sporting CP reportedly intrigued.
Outside of Iberia and Italy, Galatasaray are seeking a new right-back, while Monaco continues to scout young talent. In the Premier League, Brighton and Fulham are back in the mix after narrowly missing out on Costa in January. Both clubs are believed to be closely watching developments and could renew their interest should he be made available this summer.
Whether Costa departs permanently or temporarily, it’s increasingly evident that his immediate future lies away from the Allianz Stadium.
