Speaking on the *BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast*, journalist Chris Jack shed light on the type of manager the Ibrox hierarchy could target. When asked if Steven Gerrard fits the bill, Jack emphasized the importance of strong leadership and noted Gerrard’s past success in that very role.
“Rangers fans ultimately just want to win,” Jack stated. “They’re looking for someone who can serve as a figurehead—someone who represents the club properly, speaks well, and commands respect. Gerrard ticked all those boxes during his last spell.”
Gerrard, who famously guided Rangers to an unbeaten league title in 2020/21, remains the last manager to break Celtic’s dominance. Though his time at Ibrox wasn’t without frustration—particularly disappointing domestic cup exits—the strides made under his stewardship are still viewed positively by many supporters.
Now, with the 49ers’ impending influence and financial muscle, Gerrard may find a more supportive infrastructure than during his first stint. The limitations he previously faced—both on and off the pitch—could be eased, providing a far more conducive environment to succeed.
