Brighton’s hopes of securing European football have taken a fresh hit, with manager Fabian Hurzeler delivering a grim injury update on Ferdi Kadioglu. The £25 million summer signing from Fenerbahçe appears increasingly unlikely to feature again this season due to a lingering toe injury that’s hampered his debut Premier League campaign.
Kadioglu, 25, had shown flashes of brilliance in his limited appearances—just six league starts—before suffering the toe injury in Brighton’s 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in November. Since then, his rehabilitation has been fraught with setbacks, robbing the Seagulls of a much-needed creative presence in midfield.
Speaking ahead of Brighton’s crucial clash with Champions League contenders Newcastle, Hurzeler expressed deep concern over the midfielder’s status. “It’s hard to give a return date,” the manager admitted. “His recovery has had ups and downs, and while we’re giving him the best environment to recover, it’s still very uncertain. I can’t say if he’ll be back before the end of the season, and unlike Georginio, I’m not as optimistic in this case.”
With only four matches remaining—against Newcastle, Wolves, Liverpool, and Tottenham—time is fast running out for Kadioglu to make any further impact this season. His absence leaves a noticeable void in Brighton’s midfield as they push to qualify for European competition once more.
Hurzeler also spoke on the challenge posed by Newcastle, who currently sit third. “They’re dangerous because they can create a goal from a single moment,” he warned. “They combine physical power with individual brilliance. If you give them space, they’ll punish you. We’ll have to match them in intensity and be resilient.”
As Brighton prepare for the final stretch of their campaign, the absence of Kadioglu is not just a blow on the pitch—it’s a frustrating reminder of what might have been had the Turkish international stayed fit.
