Despite recent inconsistency, they won just enough games — three of their last six — to secure a coveted play-off berth for the second time in three seasons.
Meanwhile, their opponents Sunderland limp into the play-offs in the midst of a worrying collapse. Once contenders for automatic promotion, the Black Cats have seen their campaign unravel with *five straight defeats* to end the regular season.
