Olivier Boscagli has broken his silence on the collapse of his move to Brighton, describing it as a “huge disappointment” and squarely placing the blame on his current club, PSV Eindhoven. The French defender, who is out of contract this summer, revealed that despite a €10 million offer from the Seagulls, PSV refused to greenlight the transfer—despite earlier discussions and his contract nearing expiry.
Speaking to *ESPN NL*, Boscagli confessed he had mentally prepared for the switch to the Premier League, excited by the prospect of a new challenge and environment. “Everything looked set, but at the last moment, it fell apart—and it wasn’t on me,” he explained. “I was angry. We’d had discussions, and things didn’t go the way I was led to believe.”
The 26-year-old admitted that the situation was mentally draining, as he had already envisioned himself at Brighton. Though disappointed, he says he eventually shifted focus to contribute to PSV’s campaign. However, he also voiced frustration at being held to a deal that ultimately may cost the Dutch club financially. “I never intended to leave for free, but now that’s exactly what will happen. It was a strong offer, and they turned it down.”
With his contract now winding down, Boscagli is set to be a free agent this summer—potentially reopening the door for Brighton to revive their interest without the financial barriers that previously derailed the move. “I still have ambitions to play at the highest level,” he hinted, keeping speculation alive about a Premier League future.
Whether Brighton choose to reignite talks remains to be seen, but Boscagli’s comments make it clear: he’s ready, available, and eager to prove himself in one of football’s top leagues.
