Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was full of admiration for Adam Webster’s performance after the Seagulls secured a crucial 2-0 win away at Wolves.
Making his first start in six league games following a hamstring setback, Webster delivered a commanding display alongside Jan Paul van Hecke in central defence, stepping in after Lewis Dunk was ruled out late due to a training-ground knock.
Hurzeler praised Webster’s resilience and team-first mentality, noting the defender’s ability to rise to the occasion despite limited game time.
“Adam is like Danny Welbeck – always dependable,” Hurzeler told Sussex World. “He’s had a tough season with injuries, but when he’s called upon, he delivers. No rhythm, no problem – he gives everything.”
The Brighton boss added, “We lost Lewis in training just a day before the game, and without hesitation, Adam stepped up. I genuinely don’t know how he pulls it off – it’s incredible.
His attitude, leadership, and readiness are a huge asset.”
Hurzeler also offered praise for summer signing Brajan Gruda, who sealed the win with his first Brighton goal after Welbeck’s opener from the penalty spot.
The young German forward has had limited minutes since his £25 million move from Mainz, but Hurzeler lauded his persistence and professionalism.
“He doesn’t always get to play, but he’s never sulked,” said Hurzeler.
“He trains hard, stays positive, and today he got his reward. It’s rare I dish out compliments to fellow Germans, but Brajan earned it.”
The win keeps Brighton’s hopes of European qualification alive, though Hurzeler remains focused solely on the immediate challenge ahead.
“Europe isn’t on my mind,” he insisted. “My focus is on Liverpool – the best team in the league right now.”
