**McCoist Confirms Manager Update Is Imminent**
Speaking on Talksport’s Breakfast Show on May 14, 2025, Rangers legend Ally McCoist suggested that a managerial appointment is imminent—and that it will closely coincide with the completion of the club’s takeover.
“What this tells me is that the takeover is basically done. You don’t go out and appoint a manager unless the ownership is settled. For me, that means the club will change hands before we get the official manager announcement,” McCoist explained.
He acknowledged interim boss Barry Ferguson’s contribution but predicted the club will pursue a different long-term path: “Barry’s done a decent job, but I think the club is looking elsewhere. Davide Ancelotti looks like the frontrunner, and if they pull this off, it would be a massive signal of intent. Gerrard could be in the picture too, but I see them going down another route.”
**Takeover and Managerial Plans Closely Linked**
While the legal framework of the 49ers’ acquisition isn’t fully completed, their involvement is clear—evidenced by technical director Gretar Steinson’s active role at Ibrox. The club’s strategic planning appears well underway, even before the formalities are finalised.
