Speculation surrounding Davide Ancelotti’s potential move to Rangers may have been overstated, despite initial buzz following his Real Madrid departure.
Ancelotti had originally seemed set to join his father, Carlo Ancelotti, in a coaching capacity with the Brazil national team through to the 2026 World Cup. However, he recently reversed course, now reportedly aiming to begin his own managerial journey this summer.
There had been suggestions that Rangers were closing in on appointing him as their next manager, particularly with reports from Spain claiming that a deal was nearing completion. Yet, Scottish journalist Chris Jack (24 May) has dismissed those claims, clarifying that no agreement has been reached and no official announcement is imminent. Talks between Ancelotti and the club are ongoing, and he remains one of several contenders interested in the position under the ownership of 49ers Enterprises.
Appointing Davide Ancelotti would be a bold move for Rangers. While he brings experience as an assistant under one of the game’s most decorated managers, he has yet to prove himself as a first-team boss. This lack of experience casts doubts over whether he can successfully guide Rangers back to the summit of Scottish football.
That said, Ancelotti’s potential arrival could offer an attractive brand of football and open doors to high-profile connections, possibly drawing talent from elite clubs like Real Madrid. Still, even with access to big names, success is far from guaranteed.
