Rangers continue their careful pursuit of a new manager, and a familiar name with deep personal ties to former boss Philippe Clement is rising as a serious contender—Brian Priske.
As the Ibrox club inches closer to a potential American-led takeover, structural reinforcements are already underway. With CEO James Bisgrove now replaced by Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell recently installed as Sporting Director, Rangers have begun aligning their executive team in preparation for a new managerial era—one they hope will be better supported than Clement’s ultimately short-lived tenure.
Among the names linked to the vacancy, Danish coach Brian Priske has entered into preliminary talks with the club, according to a *BBC Sport* report by Nick Mashiter and Simon Stone. The 48-year-old has managed in multiple European leagues and boasts an impressive CV, including domestic title wins in Denmark and Czechia.
Most recently, Priske led Sparta Prague to back-to-back Czech First League titles in 2022/23 and 2023/24, along with a Czech Cup triumph last season. His earlier managerial success includes guiding FC Midtjylland to the Danish Superliga crown in 2019/20. Though his short stint at Feyenoord ended with a February 2025 sacking, he still claimed the Johan Cruyff Shield during his tenure.
Rangers fans may already be familiar with Priske, who managed Sparta Prague against them in the 2023/24 Europa League group stage—losing narrowly 2-1 at Ibrox and holding Clement’s side to a goalless draw in Prague.
But beyond the pitch, Priske shares a close bond with Clement. The two became close during their playing days at Club Brugge from 2006 to 2008, where they won the Belgian Cup together. Clement spoke warmly of his old friend during the Europa League encounter, calling him a “football addict” and praising his passion and intellect for the game.
“We’ve known each other for a long time,” Clement said in 2023. “We played together at Brugge and have kept in touch ever since. He’s not just a good coach, but a good person. We always have great football conversations.”
A former central defender, Priske’s playing career spanned clubs in Denmark, Belgium, and England—including a spell with Portsmouth. His coaching path has taken him through Antwerp, Midtjylland, Sparta Prague, and most recently Feyenoord.
While nothing has been finalized, Priske appears to be one of the top candidates currently under review by Rangers’ hierarchy. With his strong European résumé and established connection to Ibrox through Clement, the Danish tactician may soon be handed the reins to lead the club into a new chapter.
